Smelter is build like Larry Fitzgerald, with a 6-2, 226 pound frame, Smelter is one of the latest receivers to star at Georgia Tech. Putting 818 yards and 8 TD's in his final season at Georgia Tech, Smelter lined up at not only WR, but at TE at times and showed very good blocking skills from both that position and from the outside.Smelter isn't the fastest man on the field, nor does he have the surest hands, but his body is huge, and he powered his way through secondaries throughout the ACC. He was a decently reliable deep option, and he plays like the love child of Fitzgerald and former Georgia Tech legend Calvin Johnson.
One thing I saw on tape that is a concern is how Smelter will be able to handle a contested ball. Several instances he and a corner went up to get the ball, and it fell incomplete due to his lack of ability to catch a contested ball. If he can get over that and get some good coaching in the NFL, Smelter has great upside to be a complete stud.
Smelter's footwork is good, his route running is good, although he needs improvement with his double move routes, and he's NFL ready to make an impact in the next years to come.
